The magazine from the business association in the Drammen region, Vikenvest.no, recently published a new study on using ferries as part of the public transportation services.
The consulting company WSP states in a report that there is a basis for realizing the idea of a ferry in the Inner Drammensfjord and on the Drammenselva. Starting and operating a ferry service, requires a lower investment from the public sector than other public transport solutions. In 2040, the ferry can make a profit. A new station and new city bridge is coming. Will there be ferries too?
The ferry study shows that passenger transport on the waterway can contribute to a more comprehensive public transport service. The advisers in WSP state that emission-free fjord and river ferries are technically entirely possible and market-wise justifiable.
